Sustainable Building Resource
Wood is natural, biodegradable, and locks up large amounts of CO2 indefinitely. As the forests are replanted after harvest, it’s the only renewable building resource on the planet!
Wood has high insulation and thermal mass meaning that less energy is required to heat, cool and ventilate a timber building. The capacity to store and exchange heat is up to 2.5 times as much as concrete per kilo.Wood is 400 times better as a thermal insulator than steel and 14 times better than concrete.
Wood naturally breathes creating better indoor humidity, which in turn translates into improved comfort and heath for you.
Average building fires reach temperatures of 200°C to 1000°C. Steel weakens as temperatures rise above 230°C retaining only ten percent of its strength at 750°C. Timber does not ignite until it reaches over 250°C and once it catches fire develops an insulating char layer. Large timber beams have a greater fire resistance than unprotected steel beams which enhances user safety and neighbouring properties are at a reduced risk.

EXCELLENT STRENGTH TO WEIGHT RATIO
We use Laminated Timber which gives our buildings an edge when it comes to strength. Laminated timber is exceptionally strong while still being relatively light compared to other materials, like steel and concrete. The benefits of the exceptional strength to weight ratio laminated timber offers makes it especially suitable for use in the load bearing structure of buildings and roof systems with long spans. This is because the light nature of the laminated timber means less materials needs to be used for support purposes. From 9 to 90 plus metres clear span, we pride ourselves to be able to accommodate a diverse range of building projects.

In keeping with New Zealand tradition, Timbercore have a kitset range available for the Do-It-Yourself market for homes and workshops. These buildings come complete with plans and all materials that allow suitably competent people the ability to build significant buildings in there own time allowing significant savings on labour costs.
Timber framing provides for flexibility of design, and allows additions, extensions and alterations to be easily accomplished, up to and during the construction process. Builders can handle the construction from start to finish with no costly sub-contractors required.

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)
Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is the engineered solution for residential housing design and construction. LVL is an engineered wood product with high structural reliability and performance, and consistent dimensional accuracy. It allows architects and designers to specify LVL with confidence and is readily available in a range of thicknesses, depths and lengths.
Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is gaining an increasing foothold in the building sector right around the world. Lessons learned from the Christchurch earthquake and the rising awareness for protecting the environment make LVL an attractive solution.
The Technology Behind LVL is simple.
The processing begins with the logs being de-barked, then heated in hot water baths before being peeled into uniform sheets of veneer. These are automatically layered up into billets, with joins ‘scarfed’ to maintain overall strength.
